how to pierce yr ear
before we begin, i just want to make it clear that it’s always a good idea to go to a professional or have someone experienced tend to all yr piercing needs. i’m in quarantine, and piercers are (justly) not deemed essential, so that was not an option. i am also a minor in my country, and the state i live in requires parental consent to get a piercing, so i would have had to do a lot of convincing and conniving beforehand to make it happen. i would also say, with absolute certainty, the ONLY piercing you should EVER do at home with a sewing needle is a lobe. if you used a sterilized hollow piercing needle to do a simple cartilage piercing (like a nose, or a basic helix), i could get behind that, but definitely not with a sewing needle.
with the obligatory disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into the fun stuff!
Step 1-
get yr earring. it should be a smaller stud, and should be made of hypoallergenic metals, such as gold, surgical steel, or titanium. DO NOT use nickel, or blends of metals like brass and sterling silver that often contain nickel.
Step 2-
wash yr hands. lay out some clean paper towels on a flat surface (also cleaned). just clean everything that you will be touching in the process.
Step 3-
sterilize that shit. take yr sewing needle and yr earring and boil them in water for 10 minute. take them out of the water, then hold them under an open flame for 30 seconds. clean them with isopropanol. wipe them clean so you don’t get any rubbing alcohol or anything in yr piercing.
Step 4-
use an isopropanol soaked cotton round to clean the area yer piercing, then wipe it off. mark yr target with a pen.
Step 5-
hold an (washed) apple behind yr ear and stab. it’ll hurt a little, but it shouldn’t be terrible. the faster you get the needle through, the less it hurts.
Step 6-
carefully pull out the needle and insert the earring. secure it with the backer, then leave it the fuck alone. DO NOT TOUCH IT.
Step 7-
clean it with sterile saline solution a few times a day until it has healed, which should take about a month, give or take. change yr pillowcases often, don’t get any shampoo on it, and make sure not to sleep on it. DO NOT TOUCH IT.
that’s all for now, have a good day 😉
